Part of any great trip is always the food. In Englewood there is a little place called ZOMO. A family run restaurant with food so good I ate there twice in one weekend. They have a nice adjacent patio with tables in the shade, which helped with the mid-day sun. We showed up to ZOMO ravenous and immediately order the Kansas State Fair Egg Rolls. Upon our order we were provided with a brief tutorial on the proper method for eating the egg rolls. Now that I have tried these delicious morsels I value that lesson on ingestion very much. Though wrapping an egg roll might seem a little redundant, heed the words of those who have eaten before you. These are egg rolls are far beyond any bullshit frozen egg rolls you might have eaten at a processed buffet palace. This is food made with love you can taste. As we shoveled delicious appetizers in our faces we were visited by several staff members asking us if we were enjoying our meal. Us replying with muffled sounds of delight from our over-stuffed mouths. As we spoke with the passing staff we discovered most of them are family and the incredible food coming from the kitchen was being prepared by the matriarch herself. That explains the taste.
The next day we decided to go to ZOMO again. I was convinced that I was now fully addicted to egg rolls and jolt that comes from the Thai Coffee. I had my camera with me during the first visit but a combination of my hunger and the delicious food left me with only empty plates. This time I was prepared. Though it was difficult to restrain myself I managed to take a few pictures of our orders before they were hungrily devoured. Along with cheerful welcoming greetings from the staff we were joined by ZOMO owner Alysia Davey. Alysia asked if we liked curry and when we agreed that we did she insisted we try theirs. Not long afterwards a picturesque bowl of chicken curry was presented to our table. It was sublime, much like everything else we had sampled.
Finally, we were treated to the apple pie egg rolls. The pinnacle of Asian-American Fusion… APPLE PIE EGG ROLLS. WHAT?! Yes! And they work so well complimented with a hefty scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. If you are ever in Englewood, CO and hungry, make your way over to ZOMO. You will not be sorry you did! Really, you don’t even have to be hungry. You’ll get hungry once you are there. The exquisite aromas emanating from the kitchen will spark your appetite.
